The portraits below were taken during the international march against homofobia, transfobia and bi-fobia, in Bogotá, Colombia on May 16, 2021. Like many places in the world, in Colombia, the LGTBQ community suffers from discrimination and violence from different parts of society. The violence is deeply imbedded in institutions, both by government agencies as well as civil society such as universities and even within human rights movements. These are the faces of people who are attacked physically, verbally, symbolically and systematically, because of the way their faces, their clothes, and their bodies look. Today, they took the street to show the people of Colombia who they are, in plain sight, no longer hiding any part of their identity out of fear.
