Vivir Para Servir - Lyrics

Vivir Para Servir - Lyrics

Intro (Father Javier de Nicolo)

Society must have patience

It is a phenomenon of this time

It is not the youth’s fault

They are the victims of an epidemic

Chorus 1

Father Javier de Nicolo

Today we thank you for your immense work

You have taught us with love

That serving others is the best profession

Father Javier de Nicolo

Today we thank you for your immense work

You have taught us with love

That serving others is the best profession

Verse 1

On a day like today, April 29th

Father Nicolo was born in the city of Bari

Yes, there in Italy, but he began his great work here in this place

Walking down the street little by little you met the homeless

And it wasn't one or a hundred

There were more than a thousand of them

All of them all alone, just lying around

Scavenging through the rubbish to survive

And so was born the question of how you could serve them

So that they could study, work and have a decent place to sleep

Chorus 2

Father Javier de Nicolo

Today we thank you for your immense work

You have taught us with love

That serving others is the best profession

Father Javier de Nicolo

Today we thank you for your immense work

You have taught us with love

That serving others is the best profession

Verse 2

With a pedagogy of affection and joy

You protected the children of the street

You gained all their attention

While you showed them a better option

Instead of stealing and begging

They could study and work for their bread

Instead of taking drugs to get away from reality

They could fly and sing, act, dance, paint and play an instrument

Father Javier de Nicolo

Without any protocol you gave asylum to thousands without obligation

Everyone who entered your house of protection

You welcomed with all your heart

To see the change in their lives

Today many of those children are the teachers who keep your teachings alive

Interlude (Father Javier de Nicolo)

What moves humans the most is art

When a person stands in front of a crowd

And starts talking, singing, dancing, acting

He conquers the crowd

And it is in that moment that change starts

Chorus

Father Javier de Nicolo

Today we thank you for your immense work

You have taught us with love

That serving others is the best profession

Father Javier de Nicolo

Today we thank you for your immense work

You have taught us with love

That serving others is the best profession

Outro

Father Javier de Nicolo

Wherever you may be

We thank you for your immense work

Thanks to you

We are now beneficiaries of your houses of protection

Thank you
