De La Tierrita Crece talks about the people that grow from the lands of Colombia. The people that have had enough of its country's history of violence, corruption and injustice. A people that like the farmers in the countryside and the demonstrators in the cities, have the strength and the love to let go of resentment, anger and hate towards the culprits of that history, and together build a country of peace and love, that prides itself for its natural and cultural diversity.
Juan Lopez (1996) is a rapper from Bogota who uses art to express his feelings and thoughts. He started by using Graffiti as his main form of creative expression. However, ever since he was little, he wanted to become a musician. He tried to enter a music academy to fulfil his dreams, but due to difficult conditions he was forced to let those dreams go. After working for a few years, he met a girl that that convinced him that there were other options to get what he wanted. She invited him to the conservatory of IDIPRON. Here, he retrieved his love for music. From that moment on, he decided to take ever opportunity presented to him to become the artist he wants to be. Juan also was part of a concert that brought together rap and the Philharmonic orchestra of Bogotá, where he performed his song De La Tierrita Crece.
De La Tierrita Crece was born from the project El Bronx Sinfónico were Juan performed this song in El Bronx together with the philharmonic orchestra of Bogotá. Juan, who lives near El Bronx, wrote the song to express his love for Colombia and its people. Despite all the violence, corruption and poverty, it is the people that grow from the land that have the strength, resilience and love to move forward. It's an anthem to honor all of those that fight on a daily basis to make the country a better place.
The music was produced by Casper te Riele of Upeksha in cooperation with Juanlo. Together we were looking for rhythms and melodies that reflect the country's cultural and natural heritage. And the video was created along the same lines: celebrating the people, animals and nature of Colombia: those that grow from the land.
Together with director Francisco Zumaque and the philharmonic orchestra, Juan has performed this song live in El Bronx and the prestigious Julio Mario Santodomingo Theatre in Bogotá. It is Juan´s first officially released song and the first time he has performed any song in front of any audience. The first of many more to come!
